Installing a Saw Blade Bushing

What you will need:

  1. A block of 4 by 4 or similar sized hard wood to support your blade. It must be cut square so it stands up vertically and is flat and level on the top.
  2. A smaller block of very hard wood like oak or a block of metal to evenly push the bushing into the blade. A piece of oak or maple 2 by 2 cut square on both ends would work.
  3. A hammer, such as a ball peen.

Begin by placing the blade on the larger block so the arbor hole is in the center of the block and the blade is balanced on the block. The block must NOT contact the blade near the teeth—this could cause the blade to become bent.

Next, place the bushing on the blade, centered over the arbor hole. Take the small block and place it squarely over the bushing, making sure it bridges the bushing and extends beyond it over the blade. Tap the block (do NOT pound it) squarely down onto the bushing and blade until the bushing is flush or nearly flush with the face of the blade.

Remove the block and check the bushing to see if it’s flush all the way around the perimeter. If not, gently tap it with the hammer where it sticks up, until it is flush all around.
